Evidence-first editorial standard
This guide separates observed facts, engineering assumptions and data that still require confirmation. It does not promise a universal service life or replace the exact product data and project specification.
Define the asset and the decision the audit must support
Record equipment tag, function, location, owner, access, production consequence and whether the immediate need is failure containment, repair scope, replacement selection, budgetary quotation or a planned trial. Identify the exact wear boundary on a drawing. A broad request for a tougher product is less useful than a precise decision linked to a named zone.
Capture the process envelope, not only the normal value
Describe handled material, source and variability, particle-size range, maximum lump size, bulk density or solids concentration, moisture, carrier fluid or gas, throughput or velocity, drop geometry, pressure where relevant, temperature, chemistry, cleaning and upset conditions. Mark which figures are measured, estimated or still unknown.
Build a wear map around the material trajectory
Photograph inlet, first strike, sliding path, direction changes, stagnation zones, joints, outlets and the boundary with sound lining. Mark flow direction and dimensions on each image. Classify visible evidence as sliding abrasion, impact, erosion, corrosion, detachment, shell movement or a combination. Include areas that did not fail because they help isolate the controlling variable.
Record the current construction and failure history
Identify steel shell condition, previous liner material, thickness if known, tile or panel format, backing, attachment, joint arrangement, installation date, repairs and observed replacement interval. Note whether the last outage found loose pieces, worn faces, cracked edges, corrosion or adhesive failure. Separate documented history from operator recollection.
Document installation and maintenance constraints
Provide drawings, internal dimensions, curvature, penetrations, lifting limits, access openings, confined-space controls, available shutdown, substrate-preparation capability, environmental conditions and whether field welding or hot work is permitted. State inspection access and preferred replacement sequence. A technically suitable lining can still be a poor choice if it cannot be installed, cured, inspected or repaired safely.
Prioritize zones with a transparent consequence screen
Consider safety, loss of containment, unplanned downtime, production restriction, maintenance hours, repeat failure and availability of a temporary control. Do not convert incomplete data into an invented financial promise. The screen should identify where a detailed review, measurement campaign, immediate repair or controlled trial creates the most value.
Send a review package that can lead to action
Include the completed facts, annotated photographs, drawing, current-liner history, desired outage date and the questions to be answered. Request that assumptions, exclusions, exact proposed materials, attachment, inspection and missing data be stated in the response. A qualified quotation begins with a traceable application record, not only an equipment name and dimensions.
